Directions: Allegretto, aigu, capricieux (At a walking pace, pressing (lit. "acute"), capricious (impulsive))

At the forefront of the mystic and philosophical is Russian composer Alexander Scriabin. Since composing his 5th Sonata (Op 53), his music has steered away from traditional tonality, though much of his work is not truly atonal - fragments taken in isolation still suggest some trace of tonality. This piece, with its ethereal imagery of flashes of light, impulsive changes between character, ambiguous harmony, and steep demands for the pianist, is representative of this legendary composer. As a sidenote, the charter considers Scriabin a major source of artistic inspiration.
