“I knew it, he’s a bastard,” Caitlyn murmured to herself, fuming.

Her husband Ulysses had promised that he would be home for Christmas, and yet here she was, alone in their house on the couch.

As a strange serenity washed away her inhibitions, Caitlyn prepared herself to administer a verbal beatdown, and, taking deep breaths, sat on the couch.

Ulysses, horrified that he had just pointed a pistol at his own screaming wife, dropped his gun and rushed forward to comfort her, only to be pushed away.

“You’re sorry because you got caught cheating.”

Ulysses was quiet as he kneaded the pizza dough. He snuck a few glances at his wife, who was preparing the toppings - mushrooms, olives, pepperoni, and mozzarella - and avoiding eye contact, perhaps preferring the look of the tomato sauce instead.

It was not until it came time to put on the toppings did the pair talk.

“Listen, I know I don’t do stuff like this -”

“No,” Caitlyn decisively stopped Ulysses in his tracks, and proceeded to rest her head on her husband’s shoulder, “I didn’t care enough to ask. I should be sorry, because you did nothing wrong.”

“But not knowing is the point - I wanted to surprise you.”

“So finish the pizza, because there’s a surprise in the bedroom for you.”
